Have you been sad lately?
Been stressed out with the holidays coming up soon?
Do you feel like your joy has been taken away from you?
Trust me... I've been there.
With Christmas coming up very soon we have so many things to rejoice in and so many feelings of joy around this time, but also there may be a lot of heartache and feelings of sadness around this time of not having loved ones around and just different things. There may be loss and different things going on in your life that may make you not feel joyful even during this joyful time of the year. In today's episode, I go over 5 Bible verses about joy and how it is made complete through Christ Jesus.
This episode is part of a little ongoing series that I've been doing where I go over different Bible verses on a certain word each week. We've done strength and peace so far, so if you haven't already go and check out those episodes.
First I want to say a quick prayer... Lord, I pray that you lift up every single person reading this right now. Please open up our hearts, our minds, our eyes, and our ears to you Lord. I pray that we are open to receiving the joy that you give us and that we know that we have so many reasons to rejoice. I am so grateful for you LORD. I love you with every ounce of my being. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Here are 5 Bible verses about joy:
I want you to write down these verses and when you start to feel sadness, grief, and just all of these different things that are going on in the world that are weighing you down, you can look back at these Bible verses and know that you have joy within you and our true home is in heaven with Jesus and God the Father.
1. “You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”
-Psalm 16:11
- This is a verse from a Psalm of David. So whenever we are saved by Jesus Christ, our path of life leads to eternal life in heaven with Jesus and God the Father. We will have joy in the presence of the LORD whenever we go to heaven and also we can feel the LORD's presence at all times because we have the Holy Spirit within us. So anytime we start to feel sad, alone, or just think about all the different things that have happened in our lives, we can remember that the LORD is always right here with us and we can have joy in knowing that we have eternal life in heaven with Jesus and God the Father. Whenever we do go to our true home in heaven there will be no sadness, sickness, or disease, but only pure joy.
2. "I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete." -John 15:11
- This is what Jesus said to His disciples. In the verses before this one, He is talking about Him being the true vine and us as Jesus' disciples being the branches, and we have to remain in Him. Whenever we are saved by Jesus Christ we have joy within us because we have the Holy Spirit within us and the fruit of the Spirit (one aspect of the fruit of the Spirit is joy.) As believers of Jesus Christ, we already have joy and peace within us. Sometimes things will happen in this world, there will be loss and hardships, we can have grief, and just so many different things that can try to take away that joy. We can ask God to reveal that joy in our hearts and know that we have complete joy in Jesus Christ.
- Jesus Christ gave us the gift of eternal life. He made the ultimate sacrifice to die on the cross for our sins so that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life in heaven and not perish. So our joy is complete knowing that our true home is in heaven, Jesus has overcome the world, and that there is nothing in this world that can happen to take away that joy from us. Right now you might not feel very joyful and you may feel like the joy has been taken from you but it never will be because as a believer of Jesus Christ, you have the fruit of the Spirit and you have that joy within you.

3. "My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you— I, whom you have redeemed." -Psalm 71:23
- Jesus Christ has redeemed us. Whenever we are saved by Jesus we are set free, we are no longer a slave to sin but we are free in Christ. We can shout on the rooftops letting everyone know that we've been redeemed and they can be redeemed also, and that is something to always be joyful for. No matter what hardships you're facing, no matter how life is right now, and if there are just so many different things going on that are building up and trying to bring you down, you can have joy in knowing that you are redeemed in Jesus Christ. If you believe in Jesus and have asked Him to come into your heart then you've been set free. We can sing praises to Him, worship Him, and know that there is nothing that can take away the fact that Jesus Christ has redeemed us.
4. "Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls." -1 Peter 1:8-9
- So even though we have not seen Jesus Christ, as believers we love Him and we believe in Him. We have this inexpressible joy because it's part of the fruit of the Spirit and it's within us. We have that joy because we've received the goal of our faith which is the salvation of our souls through Jesus Christ. Whenever we ask Jesus to come into our hearts He saves us, we have that salvation, and no one can ever take that from us. We can only be saved by Jesus and once we are saved, we are saved. Then we have the Holy Spirit within us and we have that fruit of the Spirit and a part of that is joy.
- It literally brings me so much joy to think that I have been saved, I am redeemed in Jesus Christ, I am dead in my sins and alive in Jesus, and nothing can ever take that away from me. Whenever it's my time to go I will be going to heaven with Jesus and God the Father. Nothing in this world can ever tear me away from Jesus or make me not go to heaven when it's my time to go, because I have been saved by Jesus and I have so much joy in knowing that. I hope that when you really think about it, that gives you so much joy too because we are redeemed. When we are saved by Jesus we have the gift of salvation, we are redeemed by Jesus Christ, and no one can take that from us.
5. "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." -Romans 15:13
- So as we trust in God He will reveal that joy and peace and we will be filled with it. God's got us, He is for us, and He is always right here with us. We just have to trust in Him completely, give it all to Him, and He will reveal the fruit of the spirit in our hearts. He fills us with joy, peace, and hope. He is the God of hope and we can overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. I wanted to do this verse as the last verse of this episode because it leads me to our word for next week which is hope, so make sure to stay tuned for that episode.
I hope this episode helped you guys to know that we can always rejoice and to know that we are redeemed by Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Messiah, He is our Redeemer, He has given us the gift of salvation, as believers of Jesus Christ, and no one can take that joy from us. Our joy is made complete in Jesus Christ and we have joy within us. So no matter what you are going through right now, no matter how hard things may be, maybe you are experiencing a loss right now, maybe you are going through financial hardships, maybe there is just a lot of stress and different things during this time of the year, you can have joy knowing that you are saved by Jesus and your true home is in heaven with Him and God the Father. Jesus Christ is our Redeemer, He came to the world, lived a sinless life, died on the cross to forgive us of our sins, and whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life in heaven with Him and God the Father and that is the greatest gift.
I love you guys so much.
