Have you just been feeling tired lately?
Just tired of going through the motions every day?
Like your daily tasks just seems so daunting?
Like no matter how many hours of sleep you get you still feel exhausted?
If you said yes to any of these questions then it seems like you need some rest for your soul and that can be found in Jesus. The expectations that we put on ourselves can be exhausting, going through the daily motions, doing the things, and just living in the world that we live in today can get so tiring, but we can find rest in Jesus. Today I will be providing 4 ways to find rest in Jesus and I will be pairing them with prayer and scripture.
So first I just want to say a quick prayer.... Lord I pray that you lift up every single person reading this right now and I pray that you provide rest for our souls. I pray that we come to you and that you give us rest, and that you open up our hearts to the love that you have for us. Lord I pray that you open up our eyes to see that you are the way, the truth, and the life. I pray that you lead, guide, and direct us through every aspect of our lives. I love you with my whole heart. Jesus it's in your name that I pray, Amen.
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." -Matthew 11:28-30
In these verses here this is what Jesus is saying. So for those of us that feel tired, burdened, and just feel so exhausted, maybe you don't even realize why you feel exhausted, or maybe there's a big reason why, we can come to Jesus and he will give us rest. Jesus is gentle, humble, loving, merciful, and gracious. I just wanted to point out here what he says in verse 29, we have to come to Jesus and we have to learn from him. We can see all throughout the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John the words of Jesus Christ and his teachings. We can find rest for our souls in Jesus and in his words.
"He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake." -Psalm 23:3
In some other versions of this it says, "He refreshes my soul." So the Lord refreshes our soul. Whenever we come to Jesus, we lay it all down to him, and we learn from him, he restores our soul and gives our soul rest.
"My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him." -Psalm 62:1
Now in our episode that I went over on building a firm foundation I read verses 1-2 of this Psalm. Today I really wanted to read just verse 1 because we see that we can rest our soul in God and our salvation comes from Christ, from the Lord, from God the Son. Jesus Christ saves us and we can find rest for our souls in him.
The Lord replied, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." -Exodus 33:14
Alright, so in all these scriptures we see that we can find rest for our souls in Jesus. You may be asking, "Okay I know I can find rest in Jesus, but how? How can I find rest for my soul in Jesus?"
Here are 4 ways to Find Rest For Your Soul in Jesus:
1. Rest in his word
-So by studying the Bible. By reading and really seeking to understand his words
2. Rest in prayer
-Whenever we're resting in his word, we also have to pray that we have knowledge and understanding to know exactly what it is that we're reading and pray for rest.
-Whenever we're tired or exhausted, all throughout the day, anytime anything is happening, we can just pray to the Lord, have that close relationship with him and those conversations with him every day, through every decision in our life.
-He will make the burdens of this world lighter and he will take those burdens from us and give us rest.
3. Rest in his presence
-I don't know about you guys but I know a lot of times whenever I'm feeling exhausted I will just sit back, put my head back, and just shut my eyes. When we do that, when we are still, and we just rest for a moment, we can rest in the presence of Christ and fix our eyes on him.
-Instead of just trying to get a few moments to ourselves to rest from the things that's going on in our lives, we can do that, but we also need to fix our eyes on Jesus.
-We can rest in Jesus, in his presence, acknowledge his presence, just be still and let him give us rest, let him give us comfort, peace, and all that we need to get through every day, every moment, and every second of life.
4. Rest in his teachings
-We can see all throughout the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John the teachings of Jesus Christ and the words of Jesus Christ.
-When we study and really seek to understand his teachings, and we obey his teachings, we will find rest for our weary souls.
We just have to lay all of it down to the Lord, every bit of it, all of our burdens, all of our worries, all of our doubts, all of our fears, everything that's just making us tired, physically, mentally, and spiritually tired. Lay it all down to the Lord and he will carry your burdens and he will give you rest. With these four things that I told you guys here, we can find rest in Jesus.
So spend some time with Jesus today and every day. Rest your soul in him and lay all of it down to him. Next time you feel tired and exhausted rest in Jesus. Everyday he will give us rest. He will refresh our souls. He will strengthen us. He will give us everything that we need to get through today and every day of our lives. We have everything that we need in him, but it's important for us to spend time with him every day and to find rest in those four things that I talked about.
When we're trying to do everything on our own, we're trying to live life on our own terms, in our own way, we just think that we have it all under control, we can just do it all, and we don't have to ask for Jesus to help us, that's when we will get tired, exhausted, and feel like we don't know if we can handle it anymore, and it's because we haven't rested our souls in Jesus.
So I hope this helped you guys to really understand that resting our souls in Jesus is so important. We have to do that daily and he will give us rest, he will take our burdens, give us peace, strength, and everything that we need, but we have to come to him, we have to seek him, and learn from him.
I love you guys so much.
