REST in the Words of Jesus Christ. Ways to REST our Souls in Jesus. Part 1

A few weeks ago I did an episode about resting our souls in Jesus. If you haven't checked it out you may want to go check that out first, because I did go over the importance of resting our souls in Jesus if you're tired, if you're feeling weary and burdened or just exhausted. I also went into four ways to rest in Jesus very briefly on that episode, but I decided to really go into depth with those four ways and for the next four weeks we're going to go into each different way more into depth.

So today I wanted to go into resting in his word and that was the first way that I discussed on that episode. It's so important for us to study the Bible, to really study the words of Jesus Christ, and to rest in the words of Jesus Christ. All throughout the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John we see the powerful words of Jesus Christ. Today what I wanted to do is to put some of his words to read with you guys and to discuss them. There's so many words of Jesus in the Bible. If I went over each one and discussed them it would take me days of talking with you guys so I just picked some verses to go over and I put them into four different categories. I go over words of encouragement, words to fight off temptation, words of healing, and words about salvation and the new covenant.

But first I want to say a quick prayer... Lord I pray that you lift up every single person reading this right now. I pray that you open up our eyes to see the truth of your words and I pray that you open up your heart to your love. Lord I pray that whoever's listening to this right now that they get exactly what it is that you want them to get out of this episode and that they implement it in their daily life. Holy Spirit, please guide us, lead us, and show us truth. I love you with my whole heart Lord. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Words of Encouragement:

But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." -Matthew 14:27

Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, "Don't be afraid; just believe." -Mark 5:36

Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God." -Mark 10:27

"Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows." -Luke 12:6-7

Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty." -John 6:35

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." -John 14:27

"So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy." -John 16:22

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." -John 16:33

So in all of these verses here it's words of encouragement from Jesus Christ. He encourages us to be courageous, to have peace, to know that Jesus has overcome the world, and with God all things are possible. There's a lot of other encouraging words from Jesus Christ in the Bible, but I just wanted to go over a few key ones with you guys. So anytime you're feeling discouraged you can open up your Bible or you can write down these words of encouragement, remind yourself of these words, read these words of Jesus, and really be able to rest in those words and know that Jesus has got us. Jesus has overcome the world and we can take heart, not be afraid, and have that true inner peace through Christ.

Words to Fight off Temptation:

These verses are all in Matthew chapter four. Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert and he was tempted by the devil. There was three things that the devil tried to tempt him with and there were three responses that Jesus had. These are words that can help us when we're facing temptation and when the devil is trying to get ahold of us. We can say these verses out loud or remind ourselves of these verses to fight off the enemy and to stand up under temptation.

Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"

-Matthew 4:4

Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'" -Matthew 4:7

Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only." -Matthew 4:10

So these are verses that we can write down, say aloud, and remind ourselves anytime we're facing temptation. This will help us be able to fight off the enemy just like Jesus did in the desert. I've actually used these verses a lot lately in the past few months. Anytime I feel uneasy, I feel like I'm being tempted, or the enemy is trying to come after me I say these verses aloud and they really help bring me peace and fight off temptation.

Healing words of Christ:

We saw in our Bible study on John a lot of healing words from Christ where he performed miraculous signs. A lot of the ways that Jesus healed others were just very simple words or commands that he gave them and he healed them. All of his words are so powerful and I want to go over some of them here.

Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cured." -Mark 1:41-42

Such little words with such power. "I am willing, be clean." That's power of Jesus. With just five small words Jesus heals a man and lets him know that he's willing to heal him.

Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, "Stand up in front of everyone." -Mark 3:3

Then he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace." -Luke 8:48

Then he said to him, "Rise and go; your faith has made you well."

-Luke 17:19

Jesus replied, "You may go. Your son will live." The man took Jesus at his word and departed. -John 4:50

Then Jesus said to him, "Get up! Pick up your mat and walk."

-John 5:8

"Go," he told him, "wash in the Pool of Siloam" (this word means Sent). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing."

-John 9:7

So in all of these verses here we see the healing words of Jesus Christ. There's so many other healing words in the books of the Bible in the new Testament. But these are some super powerful words where he shows his compassion, his power, and that if people just have faith he will heal them. Jesus heals the broken and the wounded. Now all these verses that I'm reading here you can go back in the specific stories, read these verses, and go over the whole story of these verses to get more context on it and to really be able to understand it and study those stories.

Words about salvation and the new covenant:

When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. And he said to them, "I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God." After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, "Take this and divide it among you. For I tell you I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes." And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me." In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you." -Luke 22:14-20

So those verses are from the last supper where he tells his disciples about the new covenant and breaks the bread (which is a representation of his body broken for us) and drinks from the cup (which is a representation of his blood that's poured out for us).

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." -John 3:16-17

"For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it." -John 5:21

"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand." -John 10:27-28

So in all of these verses that I just read here we see about the new covenant, the salvation of Jesus Christ, Whenever we believe in Jesus and we ask him to come into our heart he forgives us of our sins, he saves us, and we have eternal life in heaven with him.

So those are all the verses that I'm going to go over with this episode. Now like I said before, you can go into each of the verses and you can go in those chapters of the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John and really study and rest in the words of Christ. All of the words of Christ in the Bible are super powerful and we can rest in his words anytime we're feeling tired, worried, discouraged, tempted, alone, afraid, or anything like that. We can rest in the words of Jesus and know that he is right here with us, he heals the broken and the wounded, he loves us, he shows us so much mercy and grace, and he saves us. Jesus is our savior, he gives us peace when we're afraid, and all of the things that we need we can find through Jesus Christ. We can rest in his words, know that he's right here and everything's going to be okay, and he will give us peace and rest for our souls.

So I hope this episode helped you guys and you were able to really soak in these verses and see the power of the words of Jesus Christ. Next week we're going to go into resting in prayer so make sure you stay tuned for that.

I love you guys so much.
