I did want to say a quick prayer... Lord, I pray that You lift up every person reading this right now. Please open up our eyes, our ears, our hearts, and our minds to You Lord. Please give us knowledge and understanding to know exactly what it is that we are reading and the wisdom to implement it in our daily lives. I pray that whatever it is that each person is supposed to receive from this Bible study, they receive it and implement it in their daily lives. I love You with every ounce of my being. In Jesus' name, Amen.
3 John:
1 The elder,
To my dear friend Gaius, whom I love in the truth.
2 Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. 3 It gave me great joy to have some brothers come and tell about your faithfulness to the truth and how you continue to walk in the truth. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
5 Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers, even though they are strangers to you. 6 They have told the church about your love. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God. 7 It was for the sake of the Name that they went out, receiving no help from the pagans. 8 We ought therefore to show hospitality to such men so that we may work together for the truth.
Alright, so I am going to stop right there and discuss these verses with you guys here. So in verse 1, John wrote this letter to his friend Gaius. In verses 2-4, we have to pray for others when things are going good or bad. At all times we should be in constant prayer and pray for everyone. John rejoices whenever he hears about others being faithful and walking in the truth of Jesus Christ. The most important things are being saved by Jesus, having eternal life, and letting others know about the truth of God's words and how Jesus has changed our lives so that they may be saved by Him also. John understood that these were the most important things.
In verses 5-8, John compliments Gaius for his hospitality. We have to be faithful and do whatever God calls us to do and that is what Gaius did. In verse 6, John knew that when Christians help other Christians then those Christians will become workers of the truth also. So it's like a domino effect, whenever you show hospitality to other believers then they can show hospitality to others, and so on and so forth. We have to show hospitality to other Christians and work together to spread the truth of God's words.

9 I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will have nothing to do with us. 10 So when I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, gossiping maliciously about us. Not satisfied with that, he refuses to welcome the brothers. He also stops those who want to do so and puts them out of the church.
11 Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God. 12 Demetrius is well spoken of by everyone—and even by the truth itself. We also speak well of him, and you know that our testimony is true.
13 I have much to write you, but I do not want to do so with pen and ink. 14 I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face.
Peace to you. The friends here send their greetings. Greet the friends there by name.
Alright, those are all of the verses of the book of 3 John, but I'm going to discuss these verses with you guys here. In verses 9-10, John rebuked Diotrephes by name and he followed the command of the scriptures, which we see in the book of Romans. In Romans 16:17 it says: "I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them." Diotrephes was full of pride, he didn't receive the apostles, and he tried to do his best to keep the apostles away from the other believers in the church. Diotrephes spoke against the apostles, he refused the brothers, and he even put people out of the church that tried to show hospitality to the brothers and to other believers.
In verses 11-12, John is telling Gaius not to be deceived by evil or to follow what other people do that is not good. God is good and those that follow God and do what is good are from God. Those that do what is evil are from the devil. In verse 12, John recommended Demetrius to Gaius. Demetrius was faithful to the truth. The apostles' testimony is true because they walk in the truth of God's words and they follow Christ. In verses 13-14, John preferred speaking face to face and he hoped to see him soon. When John says here, "The friends here send their greetings. Greet the friends there by name," even though there is a distance between them they are still all friends in Jesus and John made this apparent whenever he said that.
Here are 3 takeaways to write down:
1. We have to show kindness to others
2. We have to be faithful to what God calls us to do
3. We cannot let evil people deceive us
