I did want to say a quick prayer... Lord, I pray that you lift up every person reading this right now. Please open up our eyes, our ears, our hearts, and our minds to you Lord. Please give us knowledge and understanding to know exactly what it is that we are reading and the wisdom to implement it in our daily lives. I pray that whatever it is that each person is supposed to receive from this Bible study, they receive it and implement it in their daily lives. I love you with every ounce of my being. In Jesus' name, Amen.

1 John Chapter 3:

1 How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.

4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 5 But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. 6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.

7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. 9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. 10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother.

Alright, so I am going to stop right there and discuss these verses with you guys here. So in verses 1-3, God loves us so much that He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for our sins. When we believe in Jesus and are saved then we are in Christ and we are children of God the Father. This world is full of corruption and sin and the people of this world don't know or believe in Jesus. In verse 2, our true home is in heaven and we have a new life in Jesus Christ. We can't even begin to imagine what we will be like in glory. We have to seek to be like Jesus now, but only when we see him is when we will truly be like him. Then we will see the presence of Jesus and all of his glory. In verse 3, our hope is in Jesus Christ and we have to constantly seek to live and have a heart like Jesus.

In verses 4-6, Jesus Christ died on the cross to forgive us of our sins. He is perfect and we are made perfect in him. When we ask for forgiveness and Jesus Christ saves us then he washes us whiter than snow. In verse 6, when we live in and for Jesus, we will not continue to have a lifestyle of sin. Now, this doesn't mean that we will never sin, because we are all sinners, but when we live our life for Jesus and we are in Jesus Christ then we will let the Holy Spirit guide us and not be controlled by the sinful nature. Someone that truly knows and believes in Jesus Christ will not continue to live the same sinful life as they did before they knew Jesus. Whenever Jesus saves us he changes our lives and our hearts forever.

In verses 7-10, we can not be deceived by anyone. We have to stand firm and we have seek to always do what is right, follow Jesus, obey his commands, and be in constant relationship with him. People who stay constantly sinning are from the devil. Jesus Christ has overcome the world and he overcame the devil when he died on the cross and then he rose 3 days later. Whoever believes in Jesus will not perish but have eternal life in heaven with Him and God the Father. In verse 9 when he says "born in God," he's talking about when we are born again in Christ. Whenever we are saved by Jesus we have a new life in him. God's seed is Jesus Christ. If you kept up with our Bible studies in the book of Galatians, then we saw that in chapter 3. As children of God, we have to love and serve others, follow God, obey His commands, and seek to live and have a heart like Jesus.

11 This is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another. 12 Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous. 13 Do not be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you. 14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death. 15 Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life in him.

16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. 19 This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence 20 whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.

21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him. 23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 24 Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

Alright, so those are all of the verses of chapter 3 of the book of 1 John, but I'm going to discuss these verses with you guys here. In verses 11-12, we have to love one another and not let pride, greed, and hate consume us. What John says in verse 13, we see Jesus talk about this in John chapter 15:18-19 and they say: 18 “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you." In verse 14, Jesus is full of love, mercy, and grace, so when we love one another that is a good indication that we are dead in our sins and alive in Jesus. It's impossible for someone to be full of hate and have eternal life because someone that is full of hate doesn't have a new life in Jesus Christ. When Jesus saves us he changes our hearts. In verse 16, we see where Jesus talks about this in John 15:13 and it says: "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." Jesus Christ laid down his life for us to forgive us of our sins. He lived a sinless life, he is perfect, and he died on the cross to forgive us of our sins so that we may have eternal life when we ask for forgiveness and are saved by him.

In verses 17-18, we have to be full of love and compassion, and help others in need, We can't just talk about what we want to do to help others but we have to take action and do those things. In verses 19-20, God knows our hearts, our thoughts, he knows everything and he loves and cares for us. In verses 21-24, whenever we are in fellowship with God we can have confidence in God and stand firm in our faith, and we will experience answered prayers because everything that we want is what pleases God. When we are in a constant relationship with God, we are worshipping Him, praying to Him, following Him, and obeying His commands, we are not going to ask for things that are not what pleases God. We are going to be fully submitted to His will and we are going to want to do whatever He has planned for our lives and whatever His will is. What John says in verse 23, we can see about this in John 6:29 and also John 15:12 and they say: 29 Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” and 12 "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you." In verse 24, whenever we are saved by Jesus Christ and we have a new life in Jesus, then we have the Holy Spirit within us and God the Father sent the Holy Spirit to counsel us and show us truth.

Here are 3 takeaways to write down:

1. God loves us so much that He sent His only Son to die on the cross for our sins

2. We have to love and serve others

3. We have to show our love with our actions
