What Does it Mean to Glorify God?

faith fuels my fire

"What does it mean to glorify God?"

"Why should we glorify God?"

"How can we glorify God in all that we do?"

In today's episode, we're going to be going over glorifying God in all that we do. I'm going to be going into the definition of what it means to glorify God, and I'm going to be pairing this with prayer and scripture.

First, I want to say a quick prayer: "Abba Father, thank you so much for every single thing that you've done. Thank you for guiding and protecting me. I pray that you wrap your arms around each person reading this and show them your love. LORD, I pray that you open up our eyes, our ears, our hearts and our minds to you. LORD, I pray that we glorify you in all that we do. LORD, I pray that you open up our eyes, our ears, our hearts and our minds to you. I pray that whatever it is that each person is supposed to receive from this episode, that they receive it, and they implement it in their daily lives. I love You with every ounce of my being. In Jesus' name, Amen."

So first I want to get into what it means to glorify God. I just googled these answers, but these were the most common ones that I saw that really make sense of glorifying God. To glorify God means: "To honor Him with praise and worship, to acknowledge and praise His greatness, majesty and attributes by actively expressing admiration, worship, and thanksgiving for who He is, essentially reflecting His glory through your words and actions and recognizing that He is the source of all good things." Another definition says: "To mirror His image, which is to love and to love generously as He does." The biblical definition of glorify is: "To give weight to or to honor."

So, to glorify God is to recognize God for who He is and to respond appropriately. We know that God is good, mighty, gracious, all powerful, all wonderful, and the Most High. To glorify Him, we need to honor Him, to recognize His greatness, to praise and worship Him, to be full of gratitude, and to seek to live and have a heart like Jesus

Let's get into some scripture:

"The end of all things is near; therefore, be alert and sober-minded for prayer. Above all, maintain constant love for one another, since love covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without complaining. Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve others, as good stewards of the varied grace of God. If anyone speaks, let it be as one who speaks God’s words; if anyone serves, let it be from the strength God provides, so that God may be glorified through Jesus Christ in everything. To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen." -1 Peter 4:7-11

So, no matter what, whatever it is that we do, we need to do it for the glory of God and to glorify the name of God and the name of Jesus Christ. If you listened to last week's episode, then you know that I went into 1 Peter chapter 4 verses 1 through 6 on that episode. I also went into a little bit of a devotional from my study Bible. If you guys want to look into the study Bible, it is the "She Reads Truth" study Bible. It's the CSB version. I've had this Bible now for a couple of months and I really like it. I wanted to dive a little bit into this devotional. I did read some of it last week, but I want to read different parts of it this week. It says: "Sisters in Christ, it is time to stand in the grace of our savior and reclaim our lives for his glory. It is time to be self-controlled and clear-minded so that we can pray. It is time to keep on loving where others have stopped, to let our love for one another grow deep enough to drown sin and hurt and hate. It is time to be generous without complaining, gracious, without resentment. It is time to recognize our gifts and use them to serve in the way God has equipped us. It is time to rejoice in our suffering because we are sharing in suffering with Christ. It is time to honor God in all we do, to do it all by his grace and for his glory." This is also to brothers in Christ. If there are men reading this, there is a "He reads truth" Bible as well. I got this Bible off of Amazon, but it's a great study Bible. It has spots where you can take notes, and it has devotionals throughout the Bible. It also has weekly readings and different things like that. We have to do all things for the glory of God. It is time for us to stop living for ourselves and to live our life to glorify God in everything that we do. In a lot of these verses that I'm reading, it's talking about loving and serving others. Actually, next week's episode is going to be about the importance of loving and serving others. So, make sure you do stay tuned for that episode.

"So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God." -1 Corinthians 10:31

"But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed but let him glorify God in having that name." -1 Peter 4:16

So even in our sufferings, we should be glorifying God. We should be praising Him, worshiping Him, and recognizing that He is good in all things, even in our sufferings and mirroring his image. So just like Jesus Christ suffered, He died on the cross for our sins, He went through being mocked, beaten, and so many people denying him and being crucified; He still did it with humility, with love, with compassion, and His character never swayed. We have to seek to live and have a heart like Jesus and glorify God even in our sufferings.

"My Father is glorified by this: that you produce much fruit and prove to be my disciples." -John 15:8

In the verses before this verse, it's talking about Jesus Christ being the vine and us being the branches. So, if you haven't ever read those verses, I highly recommend you read verses 1-7 of chapter 15 as well. But we can see here in this verse that God the Father is glorified by us producing fruit and proving to be disciples of Jesus Christ. So, when we remain in Jesus, we're following His commands, and we're seeking to live and have a heart like Jesus, we're going to produce fruit. In that we're going to glorify God the Father.

"Jesus spoke these things, looked up to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so that the Son may glorify you, since you gave him authority over all people, so that he may give eternal life to everyone you have given him. This is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and the one you have sent —Jesus Christ. I have glorified you on the earth by completing the work you gave me to do. Now, Father, glorify me in your presence with that glory I had with you before the world existed." -John 17:1-7

"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. We all, with unveiled faces, are looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory; this is from the Lord who is the Spirit."

-2 Corinthians 3:17-18

So, when we're saved by Jesus Christ we have the Holy Spirit within us. We have the Spirit of Jesus Christ within us. We have to mirror the image of God, which means we have to live our lives just like Jesus lived his life. That's why last episode I talked about freedom in Christ, but with freedom in Christ, we are going to live our lives a certain way. Whenever we are saved by Jesus Christ, we're no longer going to live by the flesh, but we're going to live according to the Spirit. When we're living according to the Spirit, we are letting the Holy Spirit move us to do the will of God the Father, we're seeking to live and have a heart like Jesus, and we're going to glorify God in every single thing that we do.

I hope this episode helped you guys to realize the importance of glorifying God in all that we do. I hope it helped you to recognize what it means to glorify God and to think throughout every day, every moment of your life, just take a moment to reflect, "Is what I'm doing right now glorifying to God? Am I glorifying His name or am I glorifying the world?" If the answer is not that you are glorifying God: pray to Him, ask the Holy Spirit to move you to do the will of God the Father, and make a conscious decision every day to deny your flesh, pick up your cross, follow Jesus, and to glorify God in all that you do. Next week we are going to go into the importance of loving and serving others, so make sure you stay tuned for that.

I love you guys so much.
