What it Means to be in Awe of God

"I am in awe of You God. Looking around at all You've created and seeing birds flying around and hearing them cry out to You is overwhelming in the best way possible."

In today's episode, I will discuss what it means to be in awe of God. I will be pairing it with a story and some scripture.

First I want to say a quick prayer: "LORD, I pray that You lift every single person who is reading this right now. LORD, I pray that You open up their eyes, their ears, their hearts, and their minds to You LORD. I pray that they see Your wonder, power, beauty, and just how incredible You are. LORD, I pray that whatever it is that you are trying to speak into their life they see it, they see the truth, and that they are able to discern the truth. I pray that whatever it is that you want them to get out of this episode, they receive it and implement it in their daily lives. I love You with every ounce of my being. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Now let's get into what it means to be in awe of God. According to Google being in awe of God means: "To have a feeling of profound respect, wonder, and amazement for God. Accompanied by an attitude of worship and admiration." I want to pair this with a scripture that I saw when I was looking this up. Psalm 95:6-7 says: "Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care."

Okay now let's get into a little story time... so this past weekend I went to a women's silent retreat that my church held. If you have never heard of a silent retreat before then you are not alone because I have never heard of one either until I went on one. The funny thing is, when I first signed up for it I was all for it because I knew God had been calling me to get more involved in the community but I thought we would be silent the whole time. So I thought it would be perfect to get out there without having to socialize, but that wasn't the case at all. On Friday we hung out from 4 pm until bedtime and just got to know one another and did worship and fellowship. Saturday was our silent day quiet time from 8 am-12:30 pm.

So during my silent time, at first I found a picnic table to sit at for a little while and I could not stop crying happy tears for like the first 30 minutes. I was so shocked that God actually brought me to that place and I was just looking at His beauty and everything that He created and thinking about how amazing He is. I actually wrote down on my paper that morning "I am in awe of You God. Looking around at all You've created and seeing birds flying around and hearing them cry out to You is overwhelming in the best way possible." I was just sitting there with happy tears and thinking back on the night before meeting some amazing women that I would never think that I would actually get out of my comfort zone and meet. If you had told me just a few years ago or months ago that I would've gone on a retreat like that and met women that I would hopefully be friends with for a lifetime, I would've thought that you were crazy. I would've thought that there was no way I'd be meeting new people and getting out there and going an hour away from my hometown to go myself with a bunch of random girls to spend quiet time with God when I could just do that alone by myself at the house.

I was reflecting and just being so in awe of God and all of the things He has gotten me through the past few months with going through a breakup, and really getting me back to my roots of getting back to Him and having this new-found peace and a relationship with Him that is stronger than I feel like it's ever been before. The way that God has completely changed my heart, my desires, my mood, and He has just changed everything about me in such a short time. I was just thinking about how incredible He is. Then I went into the book of Genesis and I will put a few verses that really got me. I have read the book of Genesis a few different times but I've never seen it the way that I saw it that day. Genesis 1:1-5 says: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day." Whenever I read this and now reading it again, it's just so incredible. I have heard so many times growing up as a Christian that God created the heavens and the earth but it's just so incredible. Our God is so mighty and so powerful that He created the heavens and the earth. In the first chapter of Genesis, it goes on to say that He made the sky, the land, and all of the different things that He made. If you've never read the Book of Genesis or even the first chapter, I highly recommend you do that.

Whenever you truly have an awe of God you start to understand how incredible He really is. We are never going to be able to fully understand His work, Just like it says in Ecclesiastes 3:11 says: "He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart, yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end." God has made everything beautiful in its time. The time that we are in right now is beautiful in its own way. You may be sufferring, you may be going through a really hard time, but on the other side of that is going to be beauty. He works all things together for our good just like it says in Romans 8:28: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." God set eternity in our hearts and we will never be able to fathom His work from beginning to end but the things that He does on a daily basis is so incredible. Being in awe of God, worshipping Him, and having that adirmation is the best feeling.

"Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being." -Genesis 2:7

God took dust and formed Adam and He breathed in his nostrils and Adam was alive. God gave Him the breath of life. You guys may think I'm crazy because you've probably read this a million times but just sit on that verse for a second. Our God is so powerful and so mighty that He took the dust of the earth and made Adam. Then He put Adam into a deep sleep, took his rib, and made Eve. That is incredible. God is so amazing and if you just sit and meditate on His word and ask God, if you don't feel that awe for Him, pray that you will get that awe and that He will reveal truth to you because He is truth.

"Much dreaming and many words are meaningless. Therefore stand in awe of God." -Ecclesiastes 5:7

Sometimes we just have to be in awe. Just like that Saturday morning when I was in awe of God and His creation and everything that He's done in my life. I was trying to think of some profound words that I could journal and I was just so in awe of Him I couldn't stop crying happy tears, looking around at His creation, thinking of how incredible He is, and worshipping Him in my heart.

There are a couple of scriptures that I want to put here that some of the ladies shared when they shared their testimony of what God had spoken to them during their quiet time:

"I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. I will glory in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together." -Psalm 34

"Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge." -Psalm 62 5-8

If you want to really get inspired, read every chapter of Psalm, read a psalm a day. I'm telling you, if you want to see people that are in awe of God, David has so many psalms in here and you can tell He has that awe for God.

One last scripture:

"Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind." -Ecclesiastes 12:13

So I am going to go into the fear of God in another blog post because a lot of people have a misinterpretation of that. They feel like "Why should you fear a good and gracious God?" Or they don't understand what it means to truly fear God. It'll be in the next few blogs so stay tuned for that.

So that's it for today's episode. Take some time to just sit today and think about really being in awe of God. Take a walk in nature. Sit and look at the sky, the trees, and all of the amazing things that God has made. Think of the things that God has done in your life. Sit in His presence and just feel His peace and His love and just be in awe of Him even for just a moment. He is the greatest, most amazing, most wonderful, most high, and everyone needs that awe of God. If you have suggestions on another episode I should do, let me know. I will see you guys next week so stay tuned for that.

I love you guys so much.

Never forget to choose faith over fear.
