Why Did Jesus Wash His Disciples' Feet? Daily Devotionals in "Christ Transforms Me." Day 13 of 90.

In today's episode, we will dive into the devotional for day 13 of my journal Christ Transforms Me. This is a 90-day journal filled with daily devotionals, scripture, prayer, and gratitude. I first published this journal in January of 2022 when God had put it on my heart to create this journal. Throughout a year of praying, reflecting, and letting God and the Holy Spirit give me all the words, scriptures, and everything for this journal, I published it in January 2022. So each day for the next 77 days, I will post an episode on here going over this journal.

Day 13 Scripture:

“Jesus replied. 'You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand." -John 13:7

Day 13 Devotional:

"Jesus said this when He was washing his disciples' feet before the Passover feast. This was His reply to Simon Peter when He asked Him, "Lord are you going to wash my feet?" Jesus Christ lead by example and served His disciples to show how we, as Jesus' disciples, should serve one another. Jesus washing His disciples' feet was a demonstration showing the sacrificial love that He has for them, that He's going to wash them of their sins, and the importance of spiritual cleansing."

So, let's dive a little deeper into reading more verses of this scripture:

2 The evening meal was being served, and the devil had already prompted Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, to betray Jesus. 3 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; 4 so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5 After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”

7 Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” 8 “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.” 9 “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!” 10 Jesus answered, “A person who has had a bath need only to wash his feet; his whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.” 11 For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean. 12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you should also wash one another’s feet."

So, we can see in this scripture that Jesus knew that the Father had put everything under His power and that He was returning back to the Father, but He still humbled Himself and took the place of a servant and washed Hid disciples. He did that to show us an example of how we should wash each other's feet, as disciples of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the greatest of all of us, and He took the place of a servant to wash His disciples' feet. This was a demonstration to show the sacrificial love that He has for us and that He is going to wash us of our sins. They didn't realize it at the time, that He was going to die on the cross, and that His blood would be a representation of washing us. Whenever we are saved and ask Jesus to come into our hearts, He washes us white as snow. Because of the sacrifice that Jesus made, we are able to have eternal life in heaven with Him and God the Father whenever we are saved by Jesus.

So if you want to grab one of these journals and go along with me each day with the journal physically in your hands, then go ahead and do that. Otherwise, you can just pull up the notes on your phone, or you can get a notebook, loose-leaf paper, or a binder, however you want to do it. I want you to just take a few minutes and write down things that you are thankful for and then also write down some prayer requests.

Today’s Prayer:

"Thank you Jesus for humbling Yourself and leading by example to show us how we should serve one another. The love You have for us is pure and sacrificial. Thank You for making the ultimate sacrifice for us so that we may have eternal life through You. Jesus, it's in your name that I pray, Amen."

Today's journal questions:
