Why is it Important for us to Love and Serve Others?

faith fuels my fire

In today's episode, we're going to be going over the importance of loving and serving others. We're also going to see how Jesus Christ, our LORD and Savior was humble, served, and loved others, and how we should also do that.

First, I want to say a quick prayer: "LORD, I pray that you open up our eyes, our ears, our hearts and our minds to see the love that you give us and to see the importance of loving and serving others. Holy Spirit, please move me to do the will of God the Father, and work through me to make an impact in other people's lives. Use me as a vessel for your work. LORD, thank you for everything that you do. I am beyond grateful for you, LORD. I pray that whatever it is that each person is supposed to receive from this episode, that they receive it, and they implement it in their daily lives. I love You with every ounce of my being. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Let's get into some scripture:

"When Jesus had washed their feet and put on his outer clothing, he reclined again and said to them, “Do you know what I have done for you? You call me Teacher and Lord—and you are speaking rightly, since that is what I am. So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done for you." -John 13:12-15

If you haven't read of Jesus washing his disciples feet in chapter 13 of the Book of John, I highly recommend that you read the whole chapter. In these verses specifically that I just read shows us that Jesus Christ calls us to do as He has done for us. He humbled himself, served, and loved others. He washed his disciples' feet and we as Jesus disciples should wash one another's feet. We should humble ourselves, love, and serve one another.

"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." -Mark 10:45

So why is it important for us to love and serve others? Well, if you've watched or listened to any of my past episodes over the last couple of weeks, then you know that we should always seek to live and have a heart like Jesus. We can see right here and we can see all throughout the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, that Jesus Christ humbled Himself and He served and loved others and we as disciples of Jesus Christ should seek to live and have a heart like Jesus. Of course, we're not going to do this perfectly, but if our Lord and Savior served and loved others and still serves and loves others and He gave up his life for us, then that is also what we should do. We should love and serve one another and give up our life, give up our time and our love for one another to serve other people and just seek to live how Jesus lived.

"Don’t neglect to do what is good and to share, for God is pleased with such sacrifices." -Hebrews 13:16

“‘For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger and you took me in; I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me; I was in prison and you visited me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and take you in, or without clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick, or in prison, and visit you?’ “And the King will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

-Matthew 25:35-40

So again, why is it important to love and serve others? Just think, just like we went over last week, in all that we do, we need to do it to glorify God. Loving and serving one another is glorifying God. We have to look at everything we do as glorifying God and we have to love one another. Jesus Christ gives us that command to love one another.

So now you may be thinking, okay, I know I need to love and serve others, but how can I do that? Well, there are so many different ways that you can love and serve others. Start by loving and serving your family, with a gracious giving cheerful heart. I know this may be difficult, but it starts in your household. Think of ways that you can love and serve the ones around you. Also, getting plugged into community, into a local church, serving with the local church. Depending on which church you go to, I'm sure there's many opportunities to serve in your community, to serve in your church, and to just love on the people.

Community is so important in your walk with God and just having other Christians to hold you accountable, to love on, to serve, and serve with one another is so important. So definitely start in your household with your family. Get plugged into a local church or community if you're not already, start serving there. Then there's so many other ways to serve and love one another. You can go on mission trips, you can help out with local food banks, or you can help someone on the street that's homeless. If you don't have funds to give them, pray for them, just to love on and serve other people. It is so important. Most of us know that we need to do it, but knowing that you need to do something and actually walking in it, that is two completely different things.

I know in our busy lives it can be hard to have time to do things that we know that we're called to do, but we are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Just look through in the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. See how Jesus Christ lived his life. See how he walked humbly, how He loved and served other people, and how He gave his life for us. Every day through every aspect of our lives, we need to seek to live and have a heart like Jesus and one big way of doing that is loving and serving one another.

So that is it for today's episode. I hope this episode helped you guys to see the importance of loving and serving others and give you some ideas of what you can do to love and serve one another.

I love you guys so much.

Never forget to choose faith over fear.
